Subject: Introducing Lucifer No. 1
Newsgroups: alt.binaries.fonts
I did this font back in April this year but held on to it. I only shared it
in two quiet and least visited corners of the internet. I did this font
after Mindofone showed me a message at typophile where this font was said to
have not been digitized and there was a small specimen from Homage to the
Alphabets that would do for my needs. I eventually got hold of a better
specimen at Megaupload.
I didn't know how this font was done. I tried what little I know but I just
couldn't figure out how to do it. I can get where the black meets the white
consistently in all characters but where the black starts and ends, I wasn't
able to find a system that works for all the characters. I did not know how
it was done... until recently. A friend told me how the highlight was done.
A graphic artist would know right away how it was done but I am no artist.
For the portions of the font that I was able ro figure out, I did it my way.
For other parts, I did it arbitrarily - according to scan or something like
it. I held on to the font because it wasn't done right. I decided that I
will redo the font after learning how it was done. I haven't worked on it
yet because of other concerns.
I learned from Philippedada that Lucifer No. 1 is Pluto Outline with the
highlight part made solid. (Pluto Outline was mentioned in the typophile
thread but did not pay attention.) That made me start looking for a specimen
of Pluto Outline which I found at Flickr and also found an autotraced
unattributed digitization somewhere. I posted the unattributed font as a
Solopedia match and it kind of opened the flood gates with scans being
posted and fonts, too. It also appears that Claude is doing Pluto Outline
(plus derivatives) and Graham is halfway through the font.
My best take on this font won't measure up to what Claude and Graham may
come out with so I decided to drop the idea of redoing the font and do
something else instead. Since I am no longer redoing it, I am posting my
version of Lucifer No. 1.The font looks nice as long as you don't open it in
a font editor. :)
Enjoy!
